Depart from Tirana and head to Krujë, a historic town located just 20 km north of Albania’s capital. Rich in cultural and historical significance, Krujë was originally home to the ancient Illyrian tribe of the Albani. It rose to prominence in 1190 as the capital of the Principality of Arbër, later becoming the capital of the Kingdom of Albania.

The town is famed for its resistance against the Ottoman Empire, led by the national hero Skanderbeg, who defended it successfully during three sieges until his death in 1468. Although the Ottomans captured it after a fourth siege in 1478, Krujë remained central to Albanian resistance, including revolts and independence efforts in the 20th century.
