Hwange National Park Safari, formerly known as Wanki National Park, is the largest national park in Zimbabwe, both in terms of animal and bird population and size. Hwange is one of the largest parks in Zimbabwe, covering 14,620 sq. km (5,644 sq. mi) of pristine bushveld. Within the confines of Hwange National Park is a patchwork of Kalahari forests and teak groves, grassy plains and floodplains dotted with bulbous termites and the occasional pot, watering hole, making it the perfect spot for lion hunters. The park has a vast untouched area consisting of charming topography and ecological zones such as Lake Kariba along with Lake Kariba meadows, Zambezi Valley mopan forests and steep escarpment. The Matopos National Park, located near the town of Buolvayo, is divided into two parts: a recreational area that features caves with rock art including traditional San art, and a playground where you can see your rhinos and leopards. Matobo National Park, located near Pretty Bulawayo, is known for its impressive granite rock formations and many ancient rock paintings. As a testament to the fact that Zimbabwe is home to Africa's most iconic medieval ruins, the Hami Ruins National Monument is located just 22 km from the city of Bulawayo. Nesbitt Castle, a medieval replica, protects the remnants of Great Zimbabwe, the capital of the historic Kingdom of Zimbabwe and the most important stone ruins south of the Sahara.
