Life in the tunnels presented numerous challenges. The tunnels themselves were narrow, measuring only 0.5 to 1 meters in width, forcing individuals to maneuver by bending or dragging themselves. Essential resources such as air, food, water and other supplies were scarce within the tunnel network. Moreover, the tunnels were plagued by a variety of dangerous creatures including ants, poisonous centipedes, snakes, mosquitoes, spiders and other menacing animals. Illnesses were rampant in this confined underground environment, with diseases like malaria and intestinal parasites spreading rapidly. Additionally, the tunnels were enveloped in darkness, necessitating soldiers to memorize every path and turn to avoid falling prey to their own booby traps. However, as the tunnels expanded, certain improvements were implemented, including the establishment of arms stores, hospitals, bomb shelters, kitchens and even theaters.
