Explore the oldest winery in Uruguay on a guided tour. Delve into the rich history of the winery, discover aromas and flavors, relax in the immensity of its vineyards, and experience the most traditional of local gastronomy paired with its best high-end wines.
Around 1854, the Lahusen family, coming from Germany and with a long agro-vine growing tradition, acquired four ranches located between the San Juan and La Plata rivers, giving rise to the Compañía Rural Los Cerros de San Juan y Cochicó.
The choice of this place was the product of vast experience that took into account the characteristics of the old bed of the Saint John River, covered with gravel and boulders, similar to the Bordeaux region, where they planted crops brought from the old world.
The entire infrastructure of this winery (the oldest in Uruguay) and the complementary services for the production of its wines, constitute a particular agricultural architectural complex: the Bodega de Piedra, the old general store, the carpentry and blacksmith shop (in its most built in the second half of the 19th century) show constructions made of stone, with wide colonial-style walls typical of Colonia.
In 2014 - upon turning 160 years old - the winery began to participate in prestigious international competitions where it has been awarded, confirming the excellence of its wines and their indisputable quality.
