Summary:
This four-hour tour highlights the best of Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre and the nearby town of Golden. Your guide will be waiting for you at Denver’s Union Station, ready to take you on a short ride to the foothills west of the city, where the Great Plains meet the Rocky Mountains.
As our vehicle climbs up the hills surrounding Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre, you’ll come face-to-face with 300 million years of geological history. Your guide will share the fascinating history of the region as you get up close to the rock structures, including one of geology’s greatest mysteries – the Great Unconformity. Your guide will also be able to tell you about the unique plants and animals that call this area home.
As you enter Red Rocks Amphitheatre, your guide will tell you the unique story of this outdoor concert venue, from its original use as a ceremonial space for indigenous peoples to a stage that has welcomed legendary acts including Johnny Cash, The Beatles, U2, the beloved John Denver, and, more recently, electronic dance music.
If you can peel yourself away from the amphitheatre’s spectacular views, we’ll head to the town of Golden, a historic mining town that once rivaled Denver for the title of capital city. This small mountain town has long been an attractive destination for Native Americans, early pioneers, and recognizable names like Adolph Coors of brewery fame.
While in town, your guide can point out some favorite local spots to grab a bite or a drink, shop for souvenirs, or simply relax in the creekside park to watch locals recreating in its shallow waters. Before we leave this Gold Rush–era town, you’ll want a photo op at the town’s iconic “Welcome to Golden” sign.
No matter what you decide to do, your guide will help you have the fullest Colorado experience before heading back to the city of Denver!
