Embark on a boat trip from Folly Beach to Morris Island. Enjoy a scenic boat ride through the Lowcountry salt marsh estuaries, see Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphins and other wildlife in their natural habitat, and go fossil hunting on the beach.

Depart from the Folly River Boat Ramp in Folly Beach. From there, be treated to a scenic boat ride through the Lowcountry salt marsh estuaries where you'll see Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphins and other wildlife in their natural habitat.

Make your way to Morris Island, an uninhabited barrier island just east of Folly Island. Morris Island is only accessible by boat and is the home of the historic Morris Island Lighthouse.

When you arrive at the island, begin your fossil hunting adventure. Walk the beach in search of shark teeth, fossilized vertebrae, bone fragments, and even Native American artifacts.

As your guide, I'll help you locate and identify the fossils you find. I'll also give the group any fossils that I find along the way. The round trip trek can add up to 5 miles or more, so be prepared for a good bit of walking. But the walk will definitely be worth it.

At the end of the excursion, we'll return to the boat and make our way back to Folly Beach.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Turn right (at the pink Folly Hotel) into the Folly River Boat Ramp parking lot. Park in a short spot meant for vehicles without trailers. If you park in a spot meant for vehicles pulling trailers, you will be ticketed. If there are no spots available in the lot, parking can be found on Center Street and side streets. At the ramp, look for a Boston Whaler boat with a blue top. I will be waiting at the dock with the boat.
