From Cambridge: Guided day trip to York

Spend a day in the historic capital city of north England, with its vibrant and atmospheric streets encircled by an ancient protective wall. There is nowhere else in Britain quite like York.
We depart from central Cambridge at 8 AM on our journey to the historic capital of north England. York is one of the highlights of Britain and one of its most historic cities. It may seem far from Cambridge but the journey is a fast one and takes less than 3 hours to get there. We travel through the flatlands of The Fens before it changes to more gentle undulating landscapes of eastern England. There will be a comfort break during our journey.

On arrival in York, join your guide for a walking tour of the city. We start at the edge of the historic centre by walking along the medieval walls to the 11th century castle. Then we head directly through the heart of the city to finish outside York Minster, the largest Gothic cathedral in northern Europe. Your guide will reveal the powerful history of the city, its battles and its rulers.

After the tour, you will have free time for lunch and to explore the city on your own during the afternoon. There are a host of attractions to visit: The Jorvik Viking Centre, The National Railway Museum, York Minster, to name but three.

Late afternoon, we depart for the long journey back home to Cambridge. Have a well-earned snooze or enjoy some peaceful reflection - we aim to be back home in Cambridge by 8.30 PM.
