Description
Explore the biodiversity of the Iberian Peninsula: spot bears, wolves, lynx, and enjoy whale watching in the Strait of Gibraltar.
Our program is a true tribute to the biodiversity of the Iberian Peninsula. We will head to the Cantabrian Mountains (Asturias), specifically to the Fuentes del Narcea, Degaña e Ibias Natural Park, home to the finest Atlantic forest in the peninsula, to spot the Brown Bear and the Iberian Wolf. This area hosts the largest population of brown bears in Spain and is also the habitat of the Iberian wolf and the rare Cantabrian capercaillie.
Accompanied by local expert guides, we will explore these mountains in search of bear tracks, focusing on the early hours of the morning, the best time to spot them. Then, we will journey to the Sierra de la Culebra (Zamora) to observe the Iberian wolf, taking advantage of the opportunity to increase our chances of encountering the bear.
The Sierra de la Culebra harbors the highest density of wolves in Western Europe and the largest population of Iberian wolves in the world. Apart from wolves, it is possible to spot deer, roe deer, otters, and wild boars.
During our journey, we will visit iconic spots in the park such as Portilla del Tiétar and La Tajadilla, searching for other emblematic species such as the Black Vulture and the Imperial Eagle. Then, we will continue to Doñana National Park for a photographic safari in search of the Iberian lynx and to explore the park's diverse ecosystems.
Throughout the trip, we will have the opportunity to observe deer, fallow deer, wild boars, and a wide variety of birds, especially waterfowl. Our focus will also be on spotting the Imperial Eagle.
Finally, we will head to the Natural Park of the Strait for a whale watching excursion in the Strait of Gibraltar. Here, up to 16 species of cetaceans can be observed, including pilot whales, common dolphins, and orcas.
In case of adverse weather conditions, alternative activities such as visits to the East Arm (Doñana) or the Bahía de Cádiz Natural Park will be arranged.
