Description

Lake Mburo`s strategic location, vast wildlife, and varied landscape with beautiful scenery make it one of the popular destinations for tourists in Uganda. It's home to over 68 mammal species
Lake Mburo is the smallest of Uganda’s national parks, covering an area of 260 square kilometres. It's conveniently located along the Kampala-Mbarara Highway, making it the closest national Park to Kampala and Entebbe Cities. This strategic location, vast wildlife, and varied landscape with beautiful scenery make Lake Mburo one of the popular destinations for tourists in Uganda.

Lake Mburo National Park was first gazetted in 1933 as a controlled hunting area and later upgraded to a game reserve in 1963.

The Park is a compact gem. It's a rich park with amazing landscapes. The western part of the park is underlain by ancient metamorphic rocks which date back more than 500 million years. The Eastern side has got wetlands. The park has long creeks and canals that connect 13 lakes found in the area, 5 of which lie between the boundaries of the park. The largest of these lakes is Lake Mburo on which boat cruises happen. It also has rolling hills and golden Savannah. In the western part of the park, the savanna is interspersed with rocky ridges and forested gorges while patches of papyrus swamp and narrow bands of lush riparian woodland line many lakes. Lake Mburo National Park now contains much woodland as there are no elephants to tame the vegetation.

Lake Mburo is home to over 68 mammal species, including a very high population of Zebras. Other animals include hippopotamus, impala, warthog, common eland, African Buffalo, Rothschild`s giraffe, oribi, Defassa, water-buck, Leopard, hyena, topi, and reed-buck. It also has over 350 bird species.
