CULTURAL MILESTONES & LANDMARKS

KASUBI-ROYAY TOMBS
Kampala’s oldest and most significant landmark, standing resilient long before Western acculturation.
Once listed as a World Heritage Site, this sacred burial ground for Buganda Kings showcases a timeless dedication to royal care. A testament to history, it remains unchanged and awe-inspiring through the ages.

MISSIONARY LEGANCY & CATHEDRALS
Though less grand compared to their European counterparts, Kampala’s cathedrals are miraculous feats, built by locally sourced labor and funded by Christian converts in the 1900s.

The graveyards host pioneer missionaries who dedicated their lives to spreading light to the “dark continent,” as it was known then.

The tombstones also honor the first native Christians of this country, highlighting their significant contributions.

NANIREMBE CATHEDRAL
Standing tall with its red-bricked facade against the clear blue skies, this Anglican establishment is now the official Church of Uganda. Its historical significance and architectural beauty make it a beacon of faith and resilience, reflecting the dedication and spirit of its builders and congregants through the ages.

LUBAGA CATHEDRAL
Lubaga Cathedral of the Catholic wing is an unmatched beauty, a smaller replica of Roman-Normandy architectural sophistication. Built and raised by native trainees of bricklayers and masons under Catholic father missionaries in the 1900s, it was funded locally. The cathedral also boasts a full library in its backyard, ready for your exploration.

MENGO BUGANDA'S CAPITAL
Mengo, Buganda’s capital, was once a stronghold of British imperialism and is home to more knighted African kings than anywhere else in the world.
Its narrow streets exude a timeless sense of power and early attempts at Westernization, offering a unique glimpse into the region’s rich history and cultural evolution.

BULANGE MENGO & THE KINGS PALACE
An advancement of African monarchy, hosting a Georgian-style parliament blended with African traditionalism for a distinctive contemporary-royal elegance.
