Description
Discover the Cap Bon Peninsula on a private day trip from Tunis or Hammamet. Visit the Fort de Kelibia and the Ruins of Kerkouane, see the oldest olive tree in Tunisia, and explore the Ghar el Kebir caves.
Start your day with pickup from your hotel in Tunis or Hammamet. Travel to the Cap Bon region, admiring its mix of plains, plateaus, villages, beaches, and coves.
Stop at Kelibia Fort, a 16th-century citadel built on top of a rocky promontory 150 meters high. Admire the imposing fort, which dominates the Mediterranean Sea and the city of Kelibia, and enjoy the magnificent panorama that opens from the top of the ramparts.
Continue to the ruins of Kerkouane, one of the most precious archaeological sites in Tunisia. The ruins are the only ones in Tunisia that date back to the Punic era, perhaps in the 6th century B.C.
Explore the remains of this typically Punic city. See the remains of buildings and the decorative mosaics, one of which depicts the Punic goddess Tanit.
Next, visit the oldest olive tree in Tunisia in Echraf. The tree has impressive dimensions: the roots cover an area of about sixteen meters, the trunk has a circumference of six meters, and its age exceeds 2,500 years.
Finally, stop at the Ghar el Kebir Caves, which were dug by prisoners or slaves under the authority of the Carthaginians and then the Romans. These underground quarries have been exploited for almost 1,000 years.
Get dropped off back at your hotel in Tunis or Hammamet at the end of the tour.
