Description
Start your journey to northern Thailand and explore Chiang Rai, a cultural city. Visit three temples: the White Temple, the Blue Temple, and the Red Temple.
Start your journey with a pickup from your hotel in Chiang Mai and head to Chiang Rai, located in northern Thailand. On this tour, you'll visit Chiang Rai’s most impressive temples: the White Temple (Wat Rong Khun), the Blue Temple (Wat Rong Suea Ten), and the Red Temple (Wat Huay Pla Kang). Take a break halfway to relax at Mae Kachan Hot Spring.
First, visit Wat Rong Khun, better known as the White Temple, one of the most recognizable temples in Thailand. Wat Rong Khun is unique for its all-white color and the pieces of glass embedded in the plaster, which sparkle in the sun. The white color symbolizes the purity of the Buddha, while the glass represents the Buddha’s wisdom and the Dhamma, or Buddhist teachings.
Next, enjoy a Thai buffet lunch at a local restaurant before heading to Wat Rong Suea Ten, also known as the Blue Temple. This Buddhist temple stands out due to its stunning sapphire blue color. The name Wat Rong Suea Ten translates to "House of the Dancing Tiger," named after the tigers that once roamed the area. The main building, the viharn (assembly hall), is guarded by large Naga snakes, and the richly adorned gable follows the traditional Lanna style with intricate floral motifs.
Lastly, visit Wat Huay Pla Kang, also known as the "Big Buddha of Chiang Rai," famous for its enormous white statue of Guanyin. The temple is located on a hill in the rural area north of Chiang Rai town and blends Thai Lanna and Chinese architectural styles. The grounds feature a large Guanyin statue, a nine-tiered pagoda, and a Thai temple.
Enjoy a pleasant experience before being transferred back to your hotel, arriving around 7:00 – 7:30 p.m.
