Itinerary

5:00 AM - Hotel Pick-up and Drive to Machame Gate

Duration: 1.5 hours

Begin your day early with a pick-up from your hotel in Moshi or Arusha.
Enjoy a scenic drive through the Tanzanian countryside, arriving at the Machame Gate (1,800 meters) by 6:30 AM.

6:30 AM - Registration and Briefing at Machame Gate

Meet your experienced mountain guide and porters.
Briefing on the day's trek, safety instructions, and introduction to the flora and fauna of the area.

7:00 AM - Start the Hike from Machame Gate to Machame Camp

Distance: 11 km (4-5 hours)
Elevation Gain: 1,220 meters (3,999 feet)

Hike through the dense rainforest, with towering trees, ferns, and occasional streams.
Spot black-and-white colobus monkeys and a variety of bird species.
Enjoy the cool and fresh mountain air as you ascend gradually.

10:00 AM - Midway Break and Snack

Take a short break in the forest, enjoy a packed snack, and hydrate.
Learn more about the history of Kilimanjaro and the significance of the Machame Route.

1:00 PM - Arrive at Machame Camp (3,000 meters)

Celebrate reaching Machame Camp, the first camp on the Machame Route.
Take in the magnificent views of the Shira Plateau and Mount Meru in the distance.
Relax and enjoy a well-deserved packed lunch.

2:00 PM - Begin Descent Back to Machame Gate

Start your descent through the rainforest.
The downhill trek offers a different perspective of the trail, allowing for more photo opportunities.

5:00 PM - Return to Machame Gate and Drive Back to Your Hotel

Arrive at Machame Gate and receive your certificate of participation.
Drive back to Moshi or Arusha, reminiscing about the day’s adventure.
Drop-off at your hotel around 6:30 PM.

To guarantee availability book as soon as possible. Early booking is worth consideration especially if you planning the trip during high season like public holidays or weekends.

This excursion you can cancel with no cost up to 24 hours before the start of the trip. If you cancel it after 24 hours or not show up on the excursion you will still be charged the full price of the activity. Being late on pick-up or departure will be considered as not showing up.
