6-Day Marangu Route Trek
The Marangu Route is the most popular route to climb Kilimanjaro, known for being the easiest due to its well-maintained trails and comfortable hut accommodations. It's also well-suited for acclimatization to minimize altitude sickness.
Here's a possible itinerary for your 6-day Kilimanjaro trek:
Day 1: Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transfer to your hotel in Moshi. In the afternoon, meet your guide for a pre-climb briefing.
Day 2: Hike from Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut (2,700 meters/8,858 feet). This relatively easy day offers a gradual ascent through montane forest.
Day 3: Hike from Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut (3,700 meters/12,139 feet). The path continues through montane forest, where you might start feeling the effects of altitude.
Day 4: Acclimatization day at Horombo Hut. You can take an optional hike to Mawenzi Hut (4,600 meters/15,092 feet) for stunning mountain vistas.
Day 5: Hike from Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut (4,700 meters/15,417 feet). The trail becomes more challenging with steeper inclines and thinner air.
Day 6: Summit day! Begin your ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters/19,341 feet) in the pre-dawn hours. The climb is tough, but the summit rewards you with breathtaking views. Descend to Kibo Hut and then to Horombo Hut for the night.
