Explore Arusha's lakes, Manyara's tree-climbing lions, and Ngorongoro's Big 5 in a volcanic caldera. Unique landscapes and diverse wildlife, all at affordable prices.
Day 1: Arusha/Moshi to Arusha National Park and Back
After breakfast, depart from your Arusha or Moshi accommodations and head to Arusha National Park. Upon entering, you'll embark on a game drive, exploring highlights like the Momella Lakes and Ngurdoto Crater, often called 'Little Ngorongoro.' A unique feature of the park is the Fig Tree (Ficus thonningii) with roots forming an arch large enough for a safari vehicle to pass through. The vehicle will stop here, allowing you to step out for photos.
The game drive offers diverse landscapes, from dense forests to open savannahs, where you may spot buffalo, giraffes, zebras, and various antelope species. You’ll pause for a picnic lunch at a scenic site within the park, enjoying the natural surroundings. Afterward, continue your wildlife viewing, with chances to see more animals and possibly even a rare leopard. Around 4 PM, you’ll leave the park and return to Arusha for an overnight stay at your hotel.
Day 2: Arusha to Lake Manyara National Park
After breakfast, depart Arusha for Lake Manyara National Park, a two-hour drive that passes through the market town of Mto wa Mbu. This town is known for its cultural diversity and bustling market, where you can briefly stop to experience local life and perhaps pick up a unique souvenir.
Entering Lake Manyara National Park, you'll embark on a game drive in what’s often called a photographer’s paradise. The park is famous for its tree-climbing lions, which you may spot lounging on acacia branches. In addition to lions, the park is home to elephants, zebras, hippos, and a rich variety of bird species. Birdwatchers will be delighted by the sight of flamingos along the lakeshore, birds of prey, and the colorful lilac-breasted roller.
The day’s adventure ends with dinner and an overnight stay at your lodge or camp, situated near the rim of Lake Manyara.
Day 3: Lake Manyara to Ngorongoro Crater and Back to Arusha
After breakfast, depart for the Ngorongoro Crater, often called the 8th Wonder of the World. This ancient volcanic caldera is home to over 120 species of mammals, including the Big Five: lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhinoceros. The crater’s unique environment supports a dense concentration of wildlife, making it one of Africa’s premier safari destinations.
Inside the crater, you’ll have the chance to see endangered black rhinos, large herds of wildebeest, zebras, and Cape buffalo. The crater is also home to a variety of predators, including lions, cheetahs, leopards, jackals, and hyenas. Around midday, you’ll enjoy a picnic lunch by the hippo pool, taking in views of these massive creatures lounging in the water.
After lunch, continue exploring the crater before starting your drive back to Arusha, concluding your memorable 3-day safari through Arusha National Park, Lake Manyara, and the Ngorongoro Crater. This safari offers a perfect mix of stunning landscapes, abundant wildlife, and cultural experiences.
