The Former British Consulate at Takao Cultural Park, located in Gushan District, Kaohsiung City, comprises three areas: the hilltop consular residence, the hilltop office, and a hiking trail. It was the first consulate built by the British government in Taiwan and the only consular complex in Taiwan that completely preserves both the residence and office. In 2019, it was elevated to a national historic site by the Ministry of Culture.
Visiting the consular residence allows you to witness the evolution of colonial-style architecture in Taiwan. The best time to visit is from afternoon to evening, when you can enjoy the breathtaking sunset at Xiziwan.
