Day 1: Colombo - Dambulla - Sigiriya
Leave Colombo early in the morning and stop at the Dambulla Cave Temple. Learn about the history of the temple, which a king who sought refuge in the caves during a South Indian invasion converted into a monastery.
Continue to the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Hear the story of the prince who made the rock his hideout to escape his half-brother. Admire the artistic beauty of the fortress and take in the panoramic views from the top.
Opt to go on an elephant safari and ride an elephant through the jungle. Cross a part of the lake and get your feet wet while seated on the elephant's back. Spend the night in a hotel in Sigiriya.
Day 2: Sigiriya - Kandy - Colombo
After breakfast, leave for Colombo via Kandy. Stop at a spice garden in Matale and learn about the spices and herbs used in Sri Lankan cuisine and medication. Continue to Kandy, the last capital of the ancient kings of Sri Lanka.
Visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and watch a cultural show of drumming, dancing, music, and fire walking. Stroll through the Botanical Garden of Peradenya, a pleasure garden of a Kandyan King of the 16th century.
See the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, the foster home of elephants of different ages and sizes. Watch the elephants feeding, bathing, playing, and even mating. Visit a tea plantation and a tea factory en route to Colombo.
