Climb the Lion Rock. This Rock Fortress was built during the reign of King Kassapa (AD 477 – 495), and it is one of the seven World Heritage Sites of Sri Lanka. This ancient rock fortress rises 200 meters and is surrounded by the remains of an extensive network of gardens, reservoirs, and other structures. The majestic Lion’s Paw picturesquely guards the stairway of the palace on the summit
Sigiriya is also known for its ancient paintings (frescos), very similar to those in the Ajanta Caves of India and the 10-foot high Mirror Wall.
