*Pasaia is San Sebastian's natural port. A narrow mouth through the cliffs, it is a surprisingly natural site. This small traditional fishing village has all the charm of a lakeside town.
*The route to the peaks of Mount Jaizkibel offers sublime views off the beaten track. This route, more than 500 metres high and with its feet in the ocean, is a must.
* Txakoli winery: a dry white wine from the Basque region, produced in vineyards perched high above the villages of Getaria (Spain) and Fontarrabie, has the particularity of being slightly fizzy, and is served by raising and lowering the bottle above the glass to aerate it generously. The vineyards on the hills facing the ocean benefit from the sea spray, which gives it a unique flavor! Serve chilled with fish and seafood hors d'oeuvres, and delicious with salted anchovies and tuna in oil.
* Hondarribia a medieval village, which faces France and whose walls and fortified castle recall the quarrelsome past of these two nations. We'll visit the old quarter with its cobbled streets and magnificent mansions, and finish on the banks of the Bidasoa, the border river, with the fishermen's quarter and its famous pintxo bars.
* Saint Jean de Luz. We'll visit the town center, with its amazing beach, pedestrian shopping streets, fishing port and sumptuous 17th-century houses. Your guide will cover a wide range of themes: whaling, wealthy shipowners, the privateering era, the marriage of Louis XIV, Naploéon III's reorganization of the town, the development of tourism and Art Deco treasures.
*The village of Bidart, the perfect representation of the typical Basque village, with its church, pediment and town hall, giving your guide the opportunity to explain Basque social organization and the peculiarities of our churches. A captivating view of the coast will also delight lovers of wide open spaces!
We’ll continue with a remarkable view of the famous "côte des basques" beach, where surfing arrived thanks to an American screenwriter who came to make an adaptation of a Hemingway novel.
