La Palma : Guided tour EcoFinca Platanologico "the edible forest".

Immerse yourself in a unique experience at Platanológico, an eco-farm located in Puerto Naos in Los Llanos de Aridane, La Palma, Canary Islands.
At Platanologico, the cultivation of Canary Island bananas is carried out in a sustainable and environmentally friendly manner, following the principles of agroecology.

The plantation suffered a lot of damage during the volcanic eruption of September 2021. We started the reconstruction and planted the first banana plants in June 2022. We managed to keep a part of the edible forest safe from the volcano, where the biodiversity we work with took refuge. We hope to start harvesting again in 2024, we will welcome visitors on Thursdays at 10:30 am.

Every Thursday, we invite you to a guided tour of our farm, where you can explore the secrets and wonders of banana cultivation. During the tour, you will discover the intricate dynamics of banana plantations, from the acorn to the formation of banana handles. You will learn about the peculiar matriarchy of the banana plantations, where the "mother", "daughter" and "grandmother" play fundamental roles in generational continuity.

We will show you how we work the banana of the Canary Islands, how we do it organically and why. We will also comment on the importance of a good production for a good diet and what forecasts there are for the future and how we live with volcanoes. After the presentation, which lasts approximately 90 minutes to 120 minutes, we will have a sun tea.

This excursion you can cancel with no cost up to 24 hours before the start of the trip. If you cancel it after 24 hours or not show up on the excursion you will still be charged the full price of the activity. Being late on pick-up or departure will be considered as not showing up.
