Description

Join me for a free walking tour of Royal Windsor & Eton where we will walk the main sights and talk about the history and characters of old Windsor. Please view our main site www.crownstours.com
Our journey begins at the historic Windsor Castle, a royal residence with a history spanning over 1,000 years. This iconic castle, founded by William the Conqueror in the 11th century, has been the home of 39 monarchs, making it the longest-occupied palace in Europe.

Nearby, we encounter the charming Crooked House, an architectural curiosity dating back to 1592. This leaning structure, offers a delightful stop for visitors.
Adjacent to the Crooked House stands the Guildhall, designed by Sir Christopher Wren in 1689. This historical building, with its elegant red brick façade and classical columns, has hosted many royal ceremonies and significant events, making it a testament to Windsor's rich heritage.

We then visit Nell Gwynn's House, a charming residence associated with the famous 17th-century actress and mistress of King Charles II. This historic home adds a touch of intrigue and romance to our exploration of Windsor's past.

Next, we visit the start of the Long Walk, a picturesque tree-lined avenue stretching over two and a half miles from Windsor Castle to the Copper Horse statue of King George III. This serene path offers breathtaking views of the castle and the surrounding countryside, making it a favorite spot for leisurely walks and picnics.

Crossing the River Thames, we arrive at Eton, a quaint town best known for the prestigious Eton College. Founded in 1440 by King Henry VI, Eton College has educated many of Britain's most influential figures, including 20 British Prime Ministers. The school's impressive Gothic architecture, historic classrooms, and the renowned Chapel, with its stunning 15th-century wall paintings, offer a glimpse into the storied traditions of this elite institution.
