Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest occupied castle in the whole world.
It is strongly associated with the English and succeeding British royal family, and embodies almost a millennium of architectural history.
Windsor Castle was originally built by William the Conqueror in the decade after the Norman conquest of 1066.
The Castle includes St Georges chapel where Queen Elizabeth II is laid to rest, State Apartments that are used today by the Royal Family, historical rooms that were built for Charles II and private apartments which were created for George IV. There are many famous, must-see moments within these breathtaking rooms, like the Waterloo Chamber, the Crimson Drawing Room and spectacular Grand Staircase. With so much royal history and splendour it is possible to walk straight past some amazing treasures, so here are a few to look out for.
