Explore the Scottish Highlands on a full-day Outlander tour from Inverness. Visit the Culloden Battlefield, the Clava Cairns, and the Highland Folk Museum. Enjoy a whisky tasting at the Tomatin Distillery and see the Ruthven Barracks.
Start your day with a visit to the Culloden Clootie Well, a clootie well to show you the strange traditions still going strong in a modern world. An ancient tradition with origins back in time amongst cultures we no longer understand but can still empathize with.
Next, visit the Clava Cairns, a magnificent example of reverence for the dead in a civilization from 2,000 to 6,000 years ago. These cairns and the associated Standing Stone circles were ceremonially used but unfortunately the how’s and why’s can only be imagined by us today.
Continue to the Culloden Battlefield, the site of the last great battle and the end of the Highland way of life. Then, drive to the Tomatin Distillery for a whisky tasting.
Next, drive to Kingussie to visit the Ruthven Barracks. Finally, visit the Highland Folk Museum at Newtonmore, the site of several Outlander filming locations. A wonderful museum taking you through time from the 1740s to the 1960s.
