Description
Discover four fabulous cities in the Douro Valley on this 9-hour tour from Porto. Admire the unique landscapes, learn about wine production in the region, and discover the rich history and culture as you explore Amarante, Lamego and Régua.
On this this tour you get the opportunity to have an overview of Amarante, Lamego, and Régua, three fabulous cities in the Douro Valley.
The Douro Valley region is known for its unique landscape where the river is beautifully flanked by green mountains on both sides, forming an interesting “V” shape. Not only do these mountains flank the river but they also serve a very important purpose: they provide the soil where the wine vines are cultivated in terraces, making this sight even more fantastic. Nevertheless, there are plenty of other things to see in the valley including its rich culture, history, gastronomy, and traditions.
Amarante has become very important in history after Saint Gonçalo´s arrival between 1187 and 1259. He settled here after his pilgrimage through Rome and Jerusalem, making this city an important religious sight in Portugal. Visit the convent and church as well as its beautiful bridge and historical center.
Lamego dates back to the Roman occupation and was permanently re-conquered in the year 1057 by Fernando Magno of Leão from the moors. Here you see the Nossa Senhora dos Remédios Sanctuary in a magnificent rococo and Baroque style and will also be able to try out some Portuguese delicatessens. A delight for your palate; feel, smell, and taste some of the best products in the region.
The city of Régua is the center of the Douro Valley and an established wine region since 1756. During this tour, have lunch in a relaxing and inviting environment while enjoying the scenery of the Bagaúste Dam. For lunch you may select from a course of fish or meat, starters, beverage, dessert, and coffee.
End your day with a visit to Quinta do Tedo, where you will learn about the process of production of the famous Port wine and enjoy a tasting of some of the wines produced in the winery.
