Start the day with pickup from your hotel and meet your friendly guide for the tour. The first stop of the day is the most famous sanctuary in Portugal, Fátima. Here, learn all about the apparitions that took place in 1917, when 3 little shepherds saw the image of the Virgin Mary. Explore the Chapel of Apparitions, the spot where the iconic moment occurred. Admire the beautiful Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, where the tombs of the shepherds are located and then visit the more modern building of the sanctuary, the Basilica of the Holy Trinity.
The next stop is the town of Betalha to visit one of the most impressive buildings in the country, the Monastery of Batalha. Built by order of King John I, its construction was a way of celebrating the victory in a battle against the Spanish, the Aljubarrota battle, that put the independence of Portugal at risk. Inside, marvel at the tombs of both the King and his wife, as well as their sons and daughters including the famous tomb of Prince Henry, the Navigator, who had a crucial role in the Discoveries period in Portugal.
The tour then moves onto Nazaré, located near the coast, this is the perfect location to stop for lunch and enjoy the breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean. Finally, the town of Óbidos is the last stop of the tour. Take some time to stroll around the medieval-looking streets of this lovely town surrounded by old walls and try the famous sour cherry liquor sold in every corner of Óbidos.
