Get to know Tomar and the Knights Templar Route and discover the importance of this religious order in the establishment of Portugal as a sovereign country. Explore medieval castles and convents on one of the most important regions of Portugal.
Your private day tour will begin with pickup from your Lisbon hotel or cruise port at approximately 8:30 AM. Discover the national monuments in Tomar, part of which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As this is a private tour, you will have the freedom to rearrange your tour how you see fit. Below is the standard itinerary:
After the pickup head directly towards Tomar, an approximate 1.5-hour drive. Upon arrival you will visit the castle area which includes the famous convent of Christ where one of the most beautiful works of the Manueline style can be seen. Afterwards, enjoy a small stroll in the center of the city where you can taste some of the local sweets and/or lunch after which you will head to the Almourol Castle, a small castle in the middle of an island in the river Tagus, which was also used by the Templar Knights.
Before heading back to Lisbon you can have some time to visit Constância, a small but beautiful village by the river that was also the refuge of Camões, one of Portugal's most important poets. If time and weather allows, visit the beautiful artificial lakes created by a nearby dam, for some beautiful landscape views.
Return to the hotel by 5:30 PM. Note that all the itineraries and schedules that are described on this page are the standard ones for this tour. As this is a private tour and no one else will join your group, the tour is fully customizable according to your preferences or schedule needs if you come on a cruise ship, for example. To change anything just inform us at the time of booking or talk to the driver on the day of the tour.

When should I book?
To guarantee availability book as soon as possible. Early booking is worth consideration especially if you planning the trip during high season like public holidays or weekends.
Cancellations
This excursion you can cancel with no cost up to 48 hours before the start of the trip. If you cancel it after 48 hours or not show up on the excursion you will still be charged the full price of the activity. Being late on pick-up or departure will be considered as not showing up.
