Description
Immerse yourself in pre-war Jewish Warsaw, discover places related to the most famous ghetto Pianist - Władysław Szpilman. Learn about his life, music and book that become a script for for a film.
In November 1940 the biggest Jewish ghetto in occupied Europe is finally closed with about 350.000 people inside. One of them is Władysław Szpilman, a young pianist and composer.
In 1942 in the so-called "Great Deportation" action, Szpilman loses his family. Himself he has a chance to escape the ghetto and survive the War.
In 1946 he publishes a book with his memories from the times of WWII.
In 2001 a Polish director and Holocaust surviver Roman Polański shots his Oscar winning movie based on the book.
80 years after those events I invite you for a special tour through the Warsaw ghetto where we will see the original former Jewish houses, preserved part of the ghetto wall, the location of a wooden footbridge and Janusz Korczak related places. We will finish in the Umschlagplatz memorial (Stawki Street).
We start by the Warsaw Philharmonic where the last scene of the movie was made.
Please remember to watch "The Pianist" before the tour. The narrative will be based on the film and the Szpilman's book.
