Description

Discover Peru's Amazon in 5 days: wildlife, adventure, and stunning views await at Sandoval Lake and beyond, ending in Puerto Maldonado.
Day 1:
Upon arrival at Tambopata National Reserve, a 40-minute boat ride on Madre De Dios River leads to Sandoval Lake. A 3-kilometer hike through the reserve reveals monkeys, snakes, tarantulas, and tropical birds. Canoe exploration of Sandoval Lake offers sightings of herons, caimans, and the iconic giant river otter. A rustic cabin awaits with a traditional jungle lunch (juane). Afternoon canoe excursions continue wildlife encounters, with a sunset view over the lake and guided caiman-spotting. Dinner at the cabin concludes a day immersed in Amazonian wildlife and natural beauty.

Day 2:
Early morning search for yellow and blue macaws at a unique parrot clay lick in Madre de Dios. Return to lodge for breakfast, followed by activities such as searching for giant otters, visiting a 30-meter high tower at Sandoval Lake, optional piranha fishing, and exploring more wildlife around the lake. After lunch, pack up and return by boat to Puerto Maldonado, then transfer to another lodge along Madre de Dios River.

Day 3:
After breakfast near Tambopata River at a local lodge, activities include a suspension bridge and zip line adventure. Lunch is at 1 pm with an optional swim in the river, followed by a boat ride for sunset views and wildlife spotting like capybaras, white caimans, and river birds. Dinner is served, and nighttime activities offer a chance for a night walk to observe spiders, tarantulas, frogs, nocturnal animals, night monkeys, and snakes, making for a memorable day in the Tambopata River area.

Day 4:
After an American breakfast, guests embark on an interpretive walk among ancient trees and medicinal plants in the jungle, followed by a visit to a regional fruit sector. A typical lunch is served, featuring a new activity: eco-friendly sport fishing for piranhas at Lake Yacumama, preserving the ecosystem. The journey involves a 25-minute car ride from the main square, where villagers provide ecological rods and bait. A 7-minute walk leads to canoe boarding for up to 7 passengers, sometimes encountering calm caimans at the lake entrance. Activities include piranha fishing, observing macaws, parrots, and large flocks of parakeets, as well as spotting black caimans, offering a diverse wildlife experience in Tambopata.

Day 5:
After witnessing the Amazon sunrise, travelers depart for Puerto Maldonado. The morning includes capturing breathtaking views of the Madre de Dios River and enjoying a final nutritious breakfast sourced from organic ingredients. Guides and lodge staff bid farewell, expressing gratitude for the visit to this Amazonian region. Guests return to Puerto Maldonado by outboard motor canoe, where they can relax until their departure for home or onward journey, concluding a memorable experience in Peru's Amazon.
