Description
Explore Tambopata Jungle: Boat ride, wildlife hikes, sunset on Tambopata River, and Lake Sandoval adventure. Amazonian sunrise in Puerto Maldonado.
DAY 1: CONNECT WITH TAMBOPATA JUNGLE
Begin with a reception at our office before heading to our lodge to start the adventure, a 35-minute boat ride near the Madre de Dios River. Upon arrival, we introduce the lodge and its rooms with private bathrooms. Enjoy a typical lunch with optional vegetarian or vegan choices.
Embark on an environmental interpretation hike along forest trails to learn about plant uses and medicinal flora, with chances to spot monkeys, squirrels, and tarantulas (1.5 hrs). Around 3:30 pm, we take a boat ride along the Tambopata River to witness the vibrant colors of the afternoon sunset. Afterwards, we search the riverbanks for white caimans and capybaras.
Relax on our boat with comfortable seats and panoramic views while searching for sloths and tropical birds. We use flashlights to spot capybaras, white caimans, and herons along the riverbanks, with a high probability of sighting capybaras, the world's largest rodent.
Return to our private cabins for the evening.
DAY 2: LAKE SANDOVAL (TAMBOPATA NATIONAL RESERVE)
Today's adventure begins with a 3-kilometer hike (1 hour) along a pristine path connected by a well-preserved bridge, leading to Lake Sandoval. Along the way, we may encounter up to four species of monkeys, snakes, tarantulas, tropical birds, parrots, and various mammals.
After the hike, a canoe awaits us to explore Lake Sandoval and return to our cabins. We explore the right bank to observe wildlife such as tropical birds, herons, caimans, and the giant 2-meter-long river otter, symbolic of the Madre de Dios department.
For those with energy, a night walk offers opportunities to observe spiders, tarantulas, frogs, nocturnal animals, night monkeys, and snakes.
It's a day filled with wildlife encounters and exploration of the rich biodiversity of Tambopata National Reserve.
