Day 1: Cusco – Paucartambo – Bamboo Lodge
Start with an early hotel pick-up (4:30–5:00 AM). Travel for an hour to Huancarani, where you can enjoy breakfast at a local restaurant. Continue to the colonial town of Paucartambo, after a guided visit, proceed to the pre-Inca tombs in Ninamarca.
Learn about the mystical history of the site. Continue to the entrance of the Manu National Park at Acjanaco (4,000 m), where you'll get an introduction to the park. From Acjanaco, descend into the cloud forest, where you’ll encounter various plants like orchids, bromeliads, ferns, and Cecropia trees.
Cross the cloud forest to arrive at Atalaya Port and board a boat for a 40-minute ride to Bamboo Lodge. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 2: Paititi Lodge – Reserved Zone – Casa Matsiguenka Lodge
Rise early to visit the parrot clay lick near the lodge, where you’ll observe different species of parrots and macaws. Breakfast is served on the boat as you continue down the river for 4 hours to the Limonal checkpoint, the entrance to the Reserved Zone.
From here, navigate another 3 hours with good chances to spot jaguars along the riverbanks. By afternoon, reach the Casa Matsiguenka Lodge, a rustic accommodation.
After a delicious dinner, go on a night walk to explore the jungle’s nocturnal life, encountering tarantulas, rainbow boas, poison frogs, and the Amazon’s largest frog, the bullfrog.
Day 3: Casa Matsiguenka Lodge – Salvador Lake – Otorongo Lake
Awaken to the calls of howler monkeys and head to Salvador Lake after breakfast. Board a catamaran, with the main goal of observing the giant river otters.
The guide provides in-depth explanations of all the flora and fauna spotted. After returning to the lodge for lunch, rest briefly before heading to Otorongo Lake in the afternoon. Climb a 30-meter observation tower to enjoy panoramic views and spot giant otters, caimans, and monkeys.
In the evening, embark on another night walk, searching for nocturnal animals such as wild boars, foxes, bats, and a wide array of insects.
Day 4: Casa Matsiguenka Lodge – Dorado Lodge
After breakfast, leave Casa Matsiguenka Lodge and navigate upstream, keeping an eye out for jaguars and other large mammals like capybaras and caimans. Stop at Aguas Calientes to enjoy a relaxing natural hot spring bath before continuing to Dorado Lodge.
Here, have time to settle in and enjoy a refreshing swim in the Madre de Dios River. After dinner, take a night walk to observe the largest mammals in the rainforest, including the tapir. Spot wild boars, peccaries, coatis, and armadillos during this walk.
Day 5: Dorado Lodge – Atalaya Port – Cusco
On the last day, take a 3-hour boat ride to Atalaya Port, where your private van awaits to take you back to Cusco. Along the way, stop at the Dos Loritos Animal Rescue Center, where you can interact with rescued animals.
After this visit, continue your journey to Cusco, arriving around 8:00 PM, with a drop-off at your hotel.
