Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick - Full Day

Embark on a thrilling morning adventure to the Chuncho macaw clay lick, witnessing colorful parrots and macaws as the sun rises over the Tambopata River. An unforgettable wildlife experience awaits!
We will start the trip to the Chuncho macaw clay lick at 3:00 a.m. from our lodge in Tambopata, or we can pick you up at your hotel by car. We will have 2 hours in a 4×4 vehicle; the first part will be on the highway and the second part on a dirt road until we reach the Tambopata River, near the reserve boundary. Our boat will be waiting to take us 1 hour and 30 minutes upstream, passing our lodge and the checkpoint. During this journey, we will enjoy the sunrise just for us on the boat, and we will have great opportunities to spot riverbank birds, capybaras, white caimans, and why not mention… a jaguar or an anaconda! And let’s say we have a 20% chance of seeing one of these animals along the riverbank.

Upon arriving at our destination, we will enjoy a show at the clay lick, with green, red, and yellow parrots and macaws flying around us and making a lot of noise; it will be spectacular to witness this behavior of the birds. We will explain why these birds visit the clay cliff every day of the year. We will spend from 6:30 a.m. until approximately 11:00 a.m. Our breakfast will be in front of the clay lick activity. Afterward, we will begin our return to Puerto Maldonado, first 15 minutes by boat and then 2 hours by car.

This excursion you can cancel with no cost up to 24 hours before the start of the trip. If you cancel it after 24 hours or not show up on the excursion you will still be charged the full price of the activity. Being late on pick-up or departure will be considered as not showing up.
