Description
Experience the Amazon with monkey encounters, Lake Sandoval exploration, zip-lining, and piranha fishing. Enjoy stunning sunsets and unforgettable wildlife moments!
Day 1: Journey to Lake Sandoval
Welcome to our office! Begin with a 40-minute boat ride along the Madre de Dios River to the Tambopata National Reserve. In just 5 minutes, we’ll enter Lake Sandoval and start a 3-kilometer hike, where you might spot monkeys, snakes, tarantulas, and tropical birds.
After the hike, a canoe will take you to our rustic cabins. Enjoy a traditional jungle lunch (juane) with seasonal drinks. Following lunch, we’ll explore Lake Sandoval, with opportunities to swim and witness stunning sunsets. Our guides will help you search for caimans before we return to the lodge for dinner.
Day 2: Wildlife Manifestation
Wake up early at 5 AM for a search for vibrant yellow and blue macaws during the unique parrot clay lick activity in the palm ecosystem—an essential experience in Madre de Dios. After breakfast, we'll look for giant river otters and visit the 30-meter observation tower at Lake Sandoval, with an optional piranha fishing experience.
Enjoy a typical lunch, then prepare to return to the Madre de Dios River. Our boat will be ready for a 4 PM departure back to Puerto Maldonado, where we’ll head to our next lodge in the Madre de Dios area.
Day 3: Visit to the Tambopata River
After breakfast near the Tambopata River at one of our local family lodges, we’ll embark on exciting activities including a suspension bridge walk and zip-lining. Lunch is at 1 PM, followed by a short break (with an option to swim in the river).
As we head out on a boat for sunset, enjoy breathtaking views while searching for capybaras, white caimans, and river birds along the banks—there's a 90% chance of spotting the world's largest rodent! After dinner, if you’re up for it, join a night hike to see spiders, tarantulas, frogs, nocturnal animals, night monkeys, and snakes before resting for the night.
Day 4: Candamo Tambopata
Enjoy an American breakfast before heading out for an interpretive hike through ancient trees and medicinal plants, plus a visit to the regional fruit sector.
For lunch, savor a typical meal, then embark on a new adventure: piranha fishing at Lake Yacumama, a sustainable activity that doesn’t harm the ecosystem. The lake, rich in flora and fauna, is perfect for spotting small macaws, parrots, and large flocks of parakeets.
The journey includes a 25-minute drive from the town square, where a local guide will greet you. After a short 7-minute walk, we’ll board a canoe (maximum of 7 passengers). Keep an eye out for calm caimans that may approach for a photo opportunity!
Activities include sunset watching, piranha fishing, and observing wildlife like macaws, tropical birds, and black caimans.
Day 5: Collpa de Loros – A Unique Activity in Peru
Experience the breathtaking Amazonian sunrise and prepare for your departure to Puerto Maldonado. Enjoy a final nutritious breakfast made with organic ingredients from our pantry.
Your guide and staff will bid you farewell, thanking you for visiting this stunning part of the Amazon.
