The government palace draws a crowd during the changing of the guard ceremony but the 16th Century bronze statue is the real show-stealer.
Dive deeper into the city on foot, stopping at the Convent of Santo Domingo. This rose-hued building surrounds a pretty courtyard–a welcome escape from the busy streets of Peru’s capital. Yes, it’s beautiful. But it’s most famous as the final resting place of 3 Peruvian saints.
You can even see their skulls displayed in a glass cabinet. Gruesome.
Finish your tour at the Park of Love. It’s easy to see why this seafront spot is a popular space for couples to relax. But don’t worry–you don’t need to be here with your better half to enjoy it. Check out the famous sculpture by Victor Delfin, take a seat on one of the multi-colored benches and admire the sea views.
It’s a popular spot for paragliders so, if the weather’s good, you’ll get to see them in action. Feeling brave? Why not join them after the tour is done? (Not included but we’ll cheer you on from a distance.)
