This route will take us to two of the best archaeological centers such as Choquequirao and Machu Picchu, both of which were considered important during the Inca period.
CHOQUEQUIRAO AND MACHU PICCHU ITINERARY 8 DAYS
DAY 1: CUSCO - CACHORA - CAPULICHAYOQ - CHIKISCA.
At 4:30am we pick you up from your hotel in Cusco and travel in our private transportation which will take us to the town of San Pedro de Cachora (2800m), a journey of approximately 3 hours, where we will have some free time to have breakfast. Here we meet the rest of our travel team (cooks, muleteers and their horses). We start the tour to Choquequirao with the first hike that will take us between 6 to 7 hours. On the way we can also observe a great diversity of landscapes that belong to different climates, such as the snowy Padreyoc, during the walk our guide will give us information about the flora and fauna of this area. Finally we arrive at El Mirador Capulichayoq, from where we will be able to observe the deepest canyon in the world known as the Apurimac and where the majestic Apurimac River flows. It is here where we will have our first lunch and from where it is possible to observe the first views of Choquequirao. After lunch we descend for an average of 3 hours to CHIKISKA (1800m), where our camp will be established, we will spend the night surrounded by a majestic landscape near the canyon of the Apurimac.
DAY 2: CHIKISCA - ROSALINA BEACH - MARAMPATA - CHOQUEQUIRAO.
After a good breakfast we will begin our hike, the first part will be downhill for an average of 45 minutes until the crossing of the bridge known as Playa Rosalina, then we will begin with the most difficult route of the hike all uphill, for 4 to 5 hours until our lunch point Marampata (2950 masl), From this place we will have a beautiful view of the canyon and the Apurimac River, after lunch we will have a walk of about 1 hour more to reach the Inca citadel of Choquequirao "Cuna de Oro", which is located at 3033 meters above sea level, this is where we will have our camp with beautiful views of the Inca citadel and the entire Apurimac canyon. In the afternoon we can visit a little of the agricultural sector and then we will have tea time and a delicious dinner, then go to rest and prepare for the next day.
DAY 3: GUIDED TOUR AND VISIT OF THE INKA CITADEL "CHOQUEQUIRAO".
This day we will explore and visit the Inca citadel of Choquequirao, our guide will explain about the history and importance of this archaeological site, which is also considered as a sister city of Machu Picchu, as there are several similarities. Choquequirao hangs 1500 meters above the Apurimac Canyon. Machu Picchu hangs over the Urubamba Canyon.
They are at the same latitude and is considered one of the main cities of the Inca period, the archaeological site of Choquequirao has more than 8 hectares, where only a third has been discovered and where every day archaeologists find something more of interest. This day we will observe and know the three levels of the ruins found, where we can appreciate the urban sector, agricultural terraces and the religious sector of this Inca City. We will also have great options to appreciate the flight of the Condor, after the visit of Choquequirao we will return to our camp to have tea time and a delicious dinner.
DAY 4: CHOQUEQUIRAO - CORIHUAYRACHINA.
After breakfast we will cross the mountain on which Choquequirao is located, to then start descending to the next valley and again ascend to our campsite. Near the recently discovered archaeological site of Qorihuayrachina, we will pass by the terraces of Pincha Unuyoq, still largely covered by thick Andean forest. Pincha Unuyoq served as an agricultural support center for Choquequirao, this day we will walk for approximately 7 to 8 hours.
DAY 5: CORIHUAYRACHINA - YANAMA.
We get up early to visit Qorihuayrachina, which was discovered by an expedition in 1999. We will continue our ascent through the foliage until we reach the first pass. Near the pass we will see the ancient Inca roads and one of the Inca silver mines. After lunch near the summit (approximately 4000 m./14,500 ft.) we descend to "the garden" where we will see countless flowers below the cliffs and overhanging, this is one of the most beautiful places on this planet. Our camp will be in the village of Yanama.
DAY 6: YANAMA - LA PUERTA - LA PLAYA.
After breakfast we prepare to descend to the second pass, the road will be peaceful and relaxed, with beautiful views of waterfalls, glaciers, until we reach the pass, where we will be surrounded by snow-capped mountains. We arrive at La Puerta, also called as the pass (4.400 M), it feels like we are at the top of the world. After crossing the pass, we descend to a large meadow next to a stream, finally we continue the hike until we reach the campsite, a small village known as La Playa.
DÍA 7: LA PLAYA – LLACTAPATA – AGUAS CALIENTES.
En este día vamos a subir alrededor de 3 horas, a través de un camino inca original hasta llegar a la primera zona arqueológica de este sendero, en esta parte de la montaña observaremos una gran cantidad de vegetación, flores, arbustos, árboles de selva alta hasta llegar a la zona arqueológica de Llactapata, una vez aquí tendremos una vista panorámica de Machu Picchu con toda una cadena montañas, una vista totalmente diferente a las fotos tradicionales que todos conocemos. después de tener una visita guiada de Llactapata y haber explorado este complejo arqueológico, tenemos que hacer un descenso de unas 2 horas promedio hasta llegar a hidroeléctrica donde tendremos el ultimo almuerzo con nuestro cocinero. Luego del almuerzo continuaremos nuestra caminata con dirección al pueblo de Aguas Calientes, esta caminata tiene una duración de 2 horas y 30 minutos, durante este recorrido pasaremos a través de Mandor, también conocido por sus jardines botánicos que muestran flores hermosas, coloridas y muchas especies de orquídeas, y si se tiene tiempo también se podría visitar las cataratas de Mandor. Our arrival to Machu Picchu town will be at 5:00 pm average, place where we will spend the night in a comfortable hotel with private rooms, hot water shower, cable TV and Wi-Fi. Around 7:00 pm, we will have dinner and final preparations for the most important day of our excursion, the visit to the sacred city of the Incas MACHUPICCHU !!!!
DAY 8: MACHU PICCHU - CUSCO
Very early after breakfast (5:00 a.m. approx.) we will start the one hour hike up to Machupicchu Inka citadel. Approximately) we will begin the ascent for an hour walk to the Inka citadel of Machu Picchu, this way we can be one of the first groups inside the Inka city which will allow us to enjoy the majestic sunrise, then we will have a guided tour of the most important temples and Inka palaces inside the citadel of Machu Picchu, with your guide for approximately 02 hours (Optional climb to the mountain of Huayna Picchu extra cost $ 80 USD per person).
At appropriate time we will descend from Machu Picchu to Aguas Calientes where you can have lunch on your own.
Finally we will board our train back to Ollantaytambo and from there by car to Cusco, and then we will transfer you to your respective hotels.
