Description

We embark on the historic Sillar Route, exploring quarries and origins of ashlar stone, starting at Añashuayco Quarry, known for its towering cliffs.
From 8:00 am to 8:30 am – During this time, we conduct pickups.
At 8:30 am, we set off on the Sillar Route, a historic and culturally rich tourist path exploring quarries and ashlar origins.
Our first stop is Añashuayco Quarry, a 45-minute drive away. Currently operational, it features towering ignimbrite cliffs formed during ashlar extraction. Here, we delve into ashlar's history, craftsmanship, and its traditional uses. Witness a Megacarving of the Church of the Society of Jesus crafted by local stonemasons and experience cutting stone blocks firsthand.
Next, we head to Quebrada de Culebrillas, a 20-minute drive from Añashuayco. A 20-minute walk through this narrow canyon, with walls reaching 15 to 20 meters high, reveals ancient Wari petroglyphs dating back over a millennium. Before returning to the city, we'll marvel at Apachetas, stacked stone formations symbolizing gratitude towards nature and offering a mystical allure.
11:30 am – Our journey continues to Yura town, a 40-minute drive south.
In Yura, we visit the colonial-era Church of Yura, entirely constructed from pink ashlar. A nearby viewpoint offers panoramic views of the terraced landscapes and countryside. Optional relaxation awaits at the Yura hot springs before our return journey to central Arequipa, expected to take about an hour.
2:00 pm – Arrival at downtown Arequipa, where we'll drop you off at your respective hotel.
