Description
The roads around the Misti volcano will lead us to the Laguna de Salinas, where the saline waters meet the mountainous landscape. In addition, we will be accompanied by llamas and alpacas.
Itinerary:
We will pick up participants from their hotels in Arequipa between 6:00 and 6:30 a.m. to begin the journey to the Salinas Lagoon, located on the border of the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve. On the way, we will stop in Chiguata, a typical local village, where we will enjoy a continental breakfast including juice, mate or coffee, cereal and toast.
We will immerse ourselves in nature to explore the diverse flora and fauna of the Arequipa region surrounding the Salinas Lagoon.
Just look up to see that we are on the slopes of the Misti volcano, one of the 10 active volcanoes in the area?
During the tour, we will cross an Andean forest composed of small trees and bushes, known as queñuales in this area.
Finally, we will arrive at the Salinas Lagoon. If it is dry, it will welcome us with a white tone, similar to snow. If there is water, we can approach the shore to contemplate the large amount of accumulated salt. Did you know that this is the only lagoon where you can see three species of flamingos? In addition, during our walk around the lagoon, we will be accompanied by alpacas and llamas.
We will have the opportunity to explore the surroundings of the lagoon and the Lojen volcano area, as well as to enjoy some thermal baths. After the hike, you will have free time for lunch before returning to Arequipa.
