Connect with the tranquility of nature on a day trip from Arequipa. Visit the Catarata de Pillones, a huge waterfall surrounded by dozens of rocks shaped by water and time erosion. Then, explore the Bosque de Piedras de Puruña, a set of natural stone columns that look like a mysterious enchanted and petrified forest.
Start your adventure at 6:00 AM with a meeting point at the office on Jerusalén Street 515 or at your hotel if located in the historic center. The first destination is the town of Pampa de Arrieros, a very important station for travelers who arrived by train to the beautiful White City. Make a stop at Pampa Cañahuas where you can see vicuñas against the backdrop of the Misti Volcano.
Reach Patahuasi, where you can have breakfast or drink Andean teas to acclimatize. Prepare warm clothing, as due to the altitude (4000 meters above sea level) the climate is cold. Undertake a 20-minute descent until you reach the Catarata de Pillones (it is also possible to see it from above).
Descend carefully down a rocky slope and walk along a river before reaching the beautiful waterfall, where you can take all the photographs you want during your 45-minute stay. At 10:30 AM, begin your expedition to reach the Bosque de Piedras de Imata, whose geological formations of water-eroded rock offer an otherworldly landscape.
Then, at 12:30 PM, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before returning to Arequipa, concluding your tour at 4:00 PM near the Plaza de Armas in the city center.
