Day 01: Huaraz - Huanucopampa - Queropalca
We start with a 6-hour drive from Huaraz to La Union.
From La Union we drive another half hour to Huanuco Pampa (3736 m), situated on a large plateau.
We will visit this intriguing and captivating ancient Inca city of Huanuco Viejo for lunch.
Then we will continue to Queropalca where our first camp is located.
Day 02: Queropalca - Carhuacocha
Here we will meet our muleteers and donkeys.
From this point, we will walk to Carhuacocha Lake at 4150m.
From Carhuacocha we will see the snow-capped peaks of Jirishanca and Yerupajá reflected in the water of the lake.
We camp on the shores of Lake Carhuacocha.
Day 03: Complementary excursion to the spectacular Siula Lakes and return to Carhuacocha Camp.
We stay another night in Carhuacocha to enjoy the mountainous surroundings.
We make a day hike through a side valley that passes through the base of Yerupaja and Siula Grande.
Here we find 3 glacial lakes, all unique in the sense that each has a different shade of blue or green.
Sometimes we see avalanches that break off from the glaciers and fall into the lakes.
Day 04: Via Punta Carhuac to Laguna Mitucocha.
A steady ascent on a good trail takes us to the Punta Carhuac pass (4650 m), with good opportunities en route to spot the elusive Viscacha rodent, endemic to the high Andes.
From here, weather permitting, we will enjoy excellent views of the Yerupaja and Siula Grande peaks.
We will descend on grass to the Janca plateau and then head southeast to reach tonight's campsite at another large trout-filled lagoon: Laguna Mitucocha. After lunch, you have the option to hike around the lake.
From our camp we have magnificent views of the steep face of Jirishanca (6094 m) and Jirishanka Chico.
Day 05: Mitucocha - Rondoy
We leave our camp and head towards the Cacanampunta pass (4750 m).
From this viewpoint we will enjoy the spectacular view of the other side of the valley and we may have the opportunity to observe majestic condors flying over the pass.
We will then descend to our campsite in the Rondoy valley (4350 m).
Day 06: Rondoy - Jahuacocha.
Today is a demanding day, but well worth the energy.
You will personally capture this day with breathtaking majestic panoramic views as we gradually ascend the Rondoy Valley.
After ascending to the top of the Rondoy Pass at 4750 m, we will descend to the beautiful Jahuacocha Lagoon on the way.
We will camp at the head of the lagoon at 4050m.
Day 07: Jahuacocha / Llamac- Huaraz.
After getting up early and descending gently for an hour, we begin our gradual ascent to the final pass, Pampa Llamac (4300 m).
From here we have our last views of much of the Cordillera Huayhuash.
Then it is a long descent back to the Llamac valley and the village of Llamac.
In Llamac the bus will be waiting for us to take us back to Huaraz.
We will arrive in Huaraz around 4:00 pm.
