Description

Travel through beautiful landscapes of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Visit Moray, the salt mines of Maras, Pisaq, the Urubamba Valley and the beautiful town of Ollantaytambo.
Meet your group at the Plaza de Armas in the historic center of Cuzco. Travel first to Chinchero, a small rustic village with a long weaving tradition. See various textiles woven with traditional Inca techniques.

Then you will visit Moray and contemplate the agricultural terraces built on the hills. These terraces were built by the Incas to harvest abundant crops in this less than ideal mountainous terrain. Next door, in Moras, you will see more than 500 salt ponds that used to be used by the Incas to extract salt. This helped them preserve food for long periods of time. After learning about Inca farming techniques, head to Urumba, the capital of the Sacred Valley, for lunch.

Then you will go to two historic towns, Ollantaytambo and Pisaq. In Ollantaytambo you will climb over 200 steps to the top of an ancient terraced fortress that towers over the town. This was an important defensive site during the Inca era. In Pisaq you will discover the local market selling all kinds of souvenirs and local handicrafts before returning to Cuzco.
