After being picked up from your accommodation in downtown Puno, make your way to the Sillustani Archaeological Site, one of the largest necropolises in the world. Discover how ancient civilizations considered cemeteries to be places of rest and rebirth, choosing beautiful regions to build their sacred cemeteries. Sillustani is located on the shores of Lake Umayo, and is surrounded by mountains which create a feeling of peace and harmony.
As you explore the site, discover more than 90 "chullpas" (mausoleums) which stand out. Admire the gigantic primitive stone mausoleums reach more than 12 meters high and are unique because the base of each tower is smaller in diameter than the top. Learn about the different types of burial sites, from the most rustic, Pre-Inca, to the most sophisticated mausoleums, with multi-angled stones of fitted on the outside.
