Lake Sandoval, located in Peru, near the city of Puerto Maldonado, capital of the Department of Madre de Dios in the Amazon basin.
Lake Sandoval is a true wildlife sanctuary, home to species such as the giant otter (or river otter), the black caiman, several varieties of macaws and parrots, kingfishers, turtles, monkeys, herons and cranes, among many others.
In its surroundings, you can also find impressive orchids, platanillos (parrot's beak), ungurahuis, lupunas, mahogany trees and aguajes. The aguajales surrounding the lake are especially remarkable, as these palm trees can reach heights of 30 meters.
