Visit quarries and areas where the sillar originated, appreciate an immense canyon with cliffs and petroglyphs made by the Wari culture more than a thousand years ago.
The Sillar route is located northeast of the city of Arequipa and begins in the Añashuayco Quarries in the district of Cerro Colorado, currently has a length of 2 thousand meters, covering the quarries of Añashuayco, Cutters and the Virgin of Culebrillas quarry.
This route is considered a unique proposal where the artisans show us the techniques of extraction of ashlar. Likewise this work was declared as Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Nation, being very important for the local architecture.
Itinerary:
We start the tour by picking you up at your hotel in Arequipa.
We head towards Uchumayo and arrive at the quarries of ashlar stone for the guided tour.
Then we will know the ancient work of the artisans and the origin of the material.
We will walk until we reach the Culebrillas Canyon, formed by the passage of water.
We will also be able to take several pictures and see the petroglyphs.
- At the end of the tour, we will return to the center of Arequipa.
