If you are in Salalah, you should not miss a trip to the Rhub Al Khali desert. The first stop on the way to the largest contiguous desert in the world is Thumrait. The city was historically an important stopover on the frankincense trade route. Then it continues to the "Lost City". As a crossroads of caravan routes, Ubar was once an important city that became very wealthy through the trade in frankincense, spices, copper and probably Arabian horses.
