Start with a spectacular drive through the Hajar Mountains via Fanjah for a photo stop. Then, arrive in Nizwa City to see the Nizwa Fort — the most popular monument of Oman.
Next up is a visit to Nizwa souq, the market where you can buy traditional knives, pots and other unique items.
From Nizwa we drive to Jebel Akhdar, known as the Green Mountains and considered one of the most scenic areas in Oman and part of the Hajar Mountains.
Jebel Akhdar is named for the green terraced gardens surrounding the village that lead to the Saiq Plateau. For hundreds of years, this place was accessible only to donkeys. Pomegranates, apricots, apples, olives and grapes, roses, peaches, walnuts and many other fruits. All grow here. Wade Bani Habib, Shrejah, Al Ain and Al Aqur all have interesting hiking trails.
After leaving the Green Mountains we visit Birkat Al Moz. It has a large falaj system that provides water for date palms and vegetables to many orchards. It is on the UNESCO list and it is worth spending some time exploring the old part of the village.
