Come and be part of a small group of adventurers as we guide you on a boutique camping tour through the magnificent North Island. This three & a half week road trip starts in the cosmopolitan capital city of Wellington, before heading right off the beaten track to experience astonishing geothermal wonders, the very first sunrise in the world, awesome lakes and waterfalls, internationally renowned vineyards and art deco architecture, two of New Zealand’s premier adventure hot spots, world-famous glowworm and limestone caves, a unique rail cart experience through a ‘forgotten world’, and on to one of the world’s best one day walks.
ZigZag’s ‘Northern Wilderness and Adventure’ visits the buzzing capital city of Wellington, the Martinborough wine district, the volcanic Central Plateau (with two days to complete the incredible Tongariro Crossing), the rugged and remote ‘Forgotten Highway’ region, Mt Taranaki and the rarely-visited central west, the surfing meccas of Raglan and Mount Maunganui, the adventure capitals of Taupo and Rotorua, the world-famous art-deco and wine capital of Napier/Hastings, and State Highway 35’s astonishingly beautiful coastlines, maraes, and views of steaming White Island.
