The Poon Hill with Thapla Danda trek is a scenic and rewarding hiking route in the Annapurna region of Nepal. Starting from the picturesque town of Pokhara, the trek takes you through lush rhododendron forests, charming traditional villages, and across terraced hillsides with stunning views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges.
Poon Hill, located at an altitude of 3,210 meters (10,531 feet), is one of the highlights of the trek. It offers breathtaking panoramic views of the snow-capped peaks, including Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), and Dhaulagiri. The sunrise view from Poon Hill is particularly spectacular and draws trekkers from around the world.
Thapla Danda, at an altitude of around 3,600 meters (11,811 feet), is another scenic viewpoint along the route. From here, you can enjoy sweeping vistas of the surrounding valleys and mountains, including views of the Annapurna and Manaslu ranges.
Short Itinerary
Day 01: Drive to Ulleri and trek to Ghorepani village (7–8-hour, Max Altitude: 2,874 m/9,429 ft)
In the morning, we will pick up you from your hotel within lakeside area of Pokhara and Drive to Ulleri (3-4 hour) from Ulleri, we will trek to the famous Ghorepani village. The trail traverses through the dense forests of rhododendron, oak, pine, etc. We will trek past Nangethanti on the way. Likewise, the mountain views are phenomenal along the way. Ghorepani is a Gurung and Magar village. From here, we can see stunning views of mountains like Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Hiunchuli, Fishtail, etc.
Day 02: Go on a hike to Poon Hill viewpoint early in the morning and later trek from Ghorepani to Thaple Danda to Ghandruk (7–8-hour, 1,950 m/6,397 ft)
Today, early in the morning, we will hike to Poon Hill. The route is covered with rhododendron trees. Upon reaching Poon Hill, we will get to see a gorgeous sunrise with the backdrop of stretching snow-capped mountains. Poon Hill is one of the best and close places to enjoy surreal mountain views from Pokhara.
After enjoying the views, we will trek back to Ghorepani village and have breakfast. We will then start trekking to Thaple Danda from the Taple Danda snow-capped mountain and trek to Ghandruk village. The trail descends through dense forests and some settlements. It will be a scenic and tranquil walk. Ghandruk is another beautiful and popular Gurung village.
Day 03: Trek to Nayapul and drive back to Pokhara. (4-hour hike and 1.5-hour drive)
We will begin the morning with a delicious breakfast. Leaving Ghandruk, we will descend to Nayapul. The trek ends here. From here, we will use a local jeep and drive back to Pokhara. The remaining day is free in Pokhara. The guide will drop you at your hotel within lakeside area of Pokhara. Tour end.

Weather and Seasons: The Poon Hill trek can be done throughout the year, but the best time to trek is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons. These months offer stable weather conditions and clear mountain views. However, weather in the mountains can be unpredictable, and trekkers should be prepared for changes in weather and temperature.
When should I book?
To guarantee availability book as soon as possible. Early booking is worth consideration especially if you planning the trip during high season like public holidays or weekends.
Cancellations
This excursion you can cancel with no cost up to 24 hours before the start of the trip. If you cancel it after 24 hours or not show up on the excursion you will still be charged the full price of the activity. Being late on pick-up or departure will be considered as not showing up.
