Duration: 1 day

Difficulty: Moderate

Best Time to Go: The best time for this hike is during the dry season, which typically runs from October to April. The monsoon season (June to September) can make the trails slippery and muddy.

Itinerary:

Morning:

Start Early: Begin your day early in the morning to make the most of your day hike to Shivapuri. Arrange for transportation to the trailhead, which is typically the Budhanilkantha Temple area.

Budhanilkantha Temple: Before you begin your hike, visit the Budhanilkantha Temple, also known as the "Sleeping Vishnu" temple. It's a famous Hindu temple with a large statue of Lord Vishnu lying in a pond. It's a beautiful and culturally significant site.

Hike to Shivapuri:

Trailhead: From Budhanilkantha Temple, start your hike towards Shivapuri. There are multiple trails to choose from, but a common route is to head towards the Shivapuri National Park entrance. Make sure to get a park permit at the entrance, and have your ID handy.

Ascend to Nagi Gompa: As you hike, you'll gradually ascend through lush forests. Along the way, you can make a stop at Nagi Gompa, a Buddhist monastery. It's a serene place to take a break and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Lunch: Carry a packed lunch or snacks with you, as there might not be many food options on the trail. You can have a picnic at a suitable spot with a view.

Afternoon:
Shivapuri Peak: Continue your hike towards Shivapuri's highest point, Shivapuri Peak (2,732 meters or 8,963 feet). The trail can be steep in sections, but the effort is worth it for the panoramic views from the top.

Enjoy the Scenery: Spend some time at the peak, taking in the breathtaking views of the Kathmandu Valley, surrounding hills, and, on a clear day, the distant Himalayan peaks.

Descent: Begin your descent back towards the trailhead. You can choose a different route if you like to add variety to your hike.

Evening:
Return to Kathmandu: Reach the trailhead by late afternoon or early evening, depending on your pace. Arrange transportation back to Kathmandu.
