Description
From Kathmandu, embark on a full-day tour of the surrounding areas including the town famous for both Hindu and Buddhist faith, Pharping. Visit the Asura cave, Shesnarayan temple, Gorakhnath temple, Dakshinkali temple, Taudha Lake, and the Chobar Gorge.
Start the day with pickup from your accommodation in Kathmandu before traveling 19km south to the town of Pharping. Pharping is known as the sacred site of Yangleshö, famous for both Hinduism and Buddhism where Guru Padmasambhava attained the level of a Mahamudra Vidyadhara. There are two major practice caves in Pharping blessed by Guru Padmasambhava, the Asura cave and the Yangleshö cave. Wander around the caves and explore the Vajrayogini temple located here.
After the caves, head to Dakshinkali temple, dedicated to Goddess Kali. The name itself composed of “Dakshin” meaning south and “kali” meaning black female. Devotees sacrifice chickens, goats, sheep and many more as an offering to the goddess.
On the way back to Kathmandu from Pharphing, visit the breathtaking Taudha Lake and Chobar Gorge. Measuring at least 1250 meters, Chobhar caves are the second largest in Nepal. According to Swayambhu Purana and legends of the region, Kathmandu Valley was once a lake and it is believed that the Buddhist deity Manjushree drained away the waters to establish a habitable land.
