Description
Discover the natural beauty of the Kathmandu Valley on a day hike from Kathmandu. Visit the oldest pagoda-style temple in Kathmandu, Changunarayan, and see the sunrise and sunset from Nagarkot.
Escape the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu on a day hike to Nagarkot from Changunarayan. Take in the sunrise and sunset views of the Himalayas, and explore the terraced fields, dense Tamang traditional village, and the oldest pagoda-style temple in Kathmandu.
After a pleasant drive from Kathmandu, passing through the historical city of Bhaktapur, lush green vegetation, and the Army Officer Candidate School, reach Nagarkot. Take in the sunrise and sunset views of the Himalayas from the lap of the giant snow peaks.
From Nagarkot, start the hike, crossing through the terraced fields, dense Tamang traditional village, with typical countryside houses painted with locally found ocher. See how the village along the trail still exhibits Nepal's countryside lifestyle even though it is so close to the capital city.
On the trail, see local people making local wine called “Raksi”, prepared by a simple process of distillation by cooking food grains, like maize, millet, and wheat. On the first part of the hike, experience the culture and lifestyle of the native people on the trail.
The second part of the hike is more natural, passing through a deciduous forest, a close watch to flora and fauna. Climb the first 20 minutes, and then walk on a normal flat countryside trail for 2 hours. See the Himalayas in the backdrop of the entire natural setting.
Finally, reach Cahngunarayan, an oldest pagoda-style temple in Kathmandu. See world-praised masterpieces of stoned sculpture. The site is under the UNESCO World Heritage Site. End the hike here, with a transfer to Kathmandu by private coach.
