Itinerary
Day 1: Lukla to Phakding (2,640 meters/8,661 feet)
Start your trek with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. The trek to Phakding is relatively short and easy, providing a good introduction to the trail and an opportunity to acclimate to the altitude. Enjoy views of the Dudh Koshi River and the surrounding green hills.
Day 2: Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440 meters/11,287 feet)
Trek through lush forests and cross several suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi River. Pass through small Sherpa villages and enjoy your first glimpse of Mount Everest. The final climb to Namche Bazaar is steep, but the views and the vibrant town are rewarding.
Day 3: Acclimatization Day in Namche Bazaar
Rest and acclimatize to the higher altitude. Explore the bustling market town of Namche Bazaar, visit the Sherpa Museum, or take a hike to Everest Viewpoint for panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam.
Day 4: Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3,867 meters/12,688 feet)
Trek through rhododendron and pine forests, with spectacular views of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. Visit the famous Tengboche Monastery, one of the largest in the Khumbu region, and learn about Sherpa culture and Buddhism.
Day 5: Tengboche to Dingboche (4,410 meters/14,433 feet)
Trek through the Imja Khola Valley, with stunning views of Ama Dablam. Cross the Imja River and pass through the village of Pangboche. Reach Dingboche, where you’ll spend the night in preparation for higher altitudes.
Day 6: Dingboche to Lobuche (4,910 meters/16,108 feet)
Trek through alpine meadows and along the Khumbu Glacier. The trail becomes steeper as you ascend to Lobuche, with close-up views of Pumori and Nuptse. Pass by memorials for climbers who perished on Everest.
Day 7: Lobuche to Gorakshep (5,180 meters/16,996 feet) and Everest Base Camp (5,364 meters/17,598 feet)
Trek to Gorakshep, the last stop before Everest Base Camp. Continue to EBC, where you’ll see the Khumbu Icefall and the base camp area used by mountaineers. Return to Gorakshep for the night.
Day 8: Hike to Kala Patthar (5,545 meters/18,192 feet)
Early morning hike to Kala Patthar for one of the best views of Everest and the surrounding peaks. The steep climb is challenging but the panoramic views at sunrise are unforgettable. Descend back to Gorakshep and then trek to Pheriche.
Day 9: Gorakshep to Pheriche (4,240 meters/13,870 feet)
Start your descent, enjoying the easier trek back to lower altitudes. Pass through Dingboche and continue to Pheriche, where you’ll notice a significant improvement in your energy levels due to the lower altitude.
Day 10: Pheriche to Namche Bazaar and back to Lukla
Long day of trekking as you retrace your steps back to Namche Bazaar and continue on to Lukla. Enjoy the familiar trails and the sense of accomplishment as you return to where you started. Celebrate your trek's completion in Lukla.
